Elton John – Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me (Sydney Entertainment Centre 1986)

On December 14, 1986, Elton played one of his most-performed songs in the city he has toured the most in Australia. Treating the Sydney Entertainment Centre audience to an especially emotional rendition of his 1974 hit, Elton was accompanied by a 14-member band and 88-piece orchestra, as he had been during the entire “Tour de Force” down under that November and December. This final show of the tour was made even more poignant due to the fact that Elton had been diagnosed with nodules on his vocal cords and, as he explains in his autobiography, “Me”, wasn’t sure if he would ever sing again. Thankfully, the subsequent surgery did the trick and he’s performed almost 3,000 times since.
