Reel 4. Industries of British Guiana. Lime groves. Young children use long sticks to knock limes off the trees. Girls and women gather the fruit and carry it in baskets on their heads. A large number of women walk through the plantation with baskets on their heads. A man supervises. The limes are poured into a large pile. At the factory an “elevator“ - a conveyor belt contraption carries the limes along. Lime juice is passed through filters. Rice industry - we see the rice being sown by hand. Fields are ploughed. Man picks and washes young rice plants. They are then replanted in the rice fields. Reaping the rice - men and women work together. Two methods of threshing, by hand and by using oxen to “tread out“ the rice. Rice is then steamed and spread out to dry. Men push a large barrow. Intertitle reads: “No machine is used for turning it over - they just walk through it“. Women and children walk up and down through the rice kicking it up as they go. Sacks of rice are loaded on to a
