The residents nearby the temple believe that Lord Dattareya will bless them with goodness, take care of them and this Pooja is performed every year. Lord Dattatreya is said to have learned and connected with nature and considers nature ( Sun, Moon, Fire, Water etc) as his Guru. Lord Dattatreya is considered to be an incarnation of the three Hindu gods Trimurti - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, In some texts he is referred to as an avatar of Vishnu and in some an incarnation of Shiva. He is typically shown with three heads and six hands, one head each for Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and one pair of hands holding the symbolic items associated with each member of the Trimurti. The Japamaala & water pot of Lord Brahma, the Conch and Sudarshana Chakra of Lord Vishnu, and the Trishul and the drum of Lord Shiva Lord Dattatreya is described in the Mahabharata as an exceptional sage with extraordinary insights and knowledge, who is adored and raised to a Guru and an avatar of Vishnu in the Puranas. Dattatreya is stated in these texts to having renounced the world and leaving his home at an early age to lead a monastic life.
