WHAT IF MEG BECAME MOTHER GOTHEL? In this alternate universe, when Hercules fell in love with Meg and decided to give up his place amongst the Gods to live as a mortal with her, the pair got married and were both very hopeful about their future. They explored the world and experienced new things together, but it didn’t take long before Hercules began to show the negative signs that Meg’s mother had warned her about before she married him. A God will always be a God. Although Hercules had initial turned mortal as an ultimate act of love for Meg, he craved the love and worship that Greek Gods were graced with. Over the years his desire to feel God-like grew whilst his love for Meg diminished. He sought out compliments and admiration from other women who adored him and he chased fights with monstrous creatures so that people would worship him like a God. Hercules lost sight of what he stayed mortal for…but Meg stayed and supported him. After travelling far and wide to prove himself, Hercules eventually meets his end in Germany. Meg had to bury her husband and although he was an unfaithful man who was practically a stranger to her in the end, she grieved his death immensely. After all, people do crazy things when they’re in love. Every year Meg returned to the grounds where she buried him and lived the rest of her life feeling insecure because of his actions. After many years had gone by, on one of her annual visits, Meg found a magical flower that had grown from the soil in which she had buried her late husband. It’s glow reminded her of the radiant sunlight that would beam off of Hercules and in a twisted way she took the sight of this beautiful Sundrop Flower as a final gift from him. She was infatuated by the youthful beauty it gave her and in her mind it was a reminder that Hercules wanted her to stay young and beautiful forever despite what he did whilst he was alive. Meg’s beauty was one of things Hercules loved most about her, she would do anything to keep her special gift and the last living piece of Hercules alive, even if it meant kidnapping and imprisoning a young princess whilst under the alias of Mother Gothel. In this alternate universe this is Mother Gothel’s Villain origin and the reason why the Sundrop Flower is so important to her in Tangled. This is the first song in my Alternate Universe (& Villain Origin!!)
