Advancing with Watercolor: Technique - Graded Washes

In this demonstration I make wide use of the graded wash to communicate the qualities of morning light falling on the Campo at San Margarita in Venice. In doing the first washes I set up the transition in the sky, buildings and foreground. Then in the second wash I start to create the shadows falling off the buildings. The gradual change in the graded wash is helping to create the effect of light moving across the sky and buildings as well as light bouncing back up into the buildings.
