Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and flight occurred amidst new violence in Bangladesh, where over 100 people were killed on Sunday. Protesters had called for a march to Dhaka despite the curfew. Bangladesh Army General Waker-uz-Zaman announced the resignation of Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina and the formation of an 18-member interim government. The interim government will be led by Mohammad Yunis. Protesters also stormed the residence of Sheikh Hasina and ransacked her house. People celebrated in the streets, distributed sweets, and even security forces were seen partaking in the festivities.
