The game Mafia II went through long and problematic development. Lots of features were removed because both time and money had to be invested into making the game at least somehow playable and seemingly bug-free. One of strippped-away features is a close combat weapons system. In preview/journalist gameplays, published by 2K Games itself (thus being legitimate source of the info about the game), close combat weapons were shown in combat. Namely, it was a police baton used by an NPC character in GDS 2009 preview mission. However, this feature was then stripped away completely, leaving bare fistfighting as the only way of close combat ecounter.
