Discover World’s Largest Island In A River. Majuli is a famous tourist spot in Assam with its lush green environment-friendly, pristine and pollution free fresh water over the river of Brahmaputra. The place is based on an area of 880 square kilo metres but having lost significantly to erosion it covers only an area of 352 square kilo metres as at 2014. Majuli is currently listed as the world’s largest river island in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Mostly inhabited by the Tribals, the culture of Majuli is unique and quite interesting and is one of the key reasons why people love this place so much. It is also called the cultural capital of Assam. The festivals celebrated here are all joyous and vibrant. The main festival in the town of Majuli is called Raas and witnessing it is an interesting spectacle.”
