Moanin’ - Metropole Orkest Big Band conducted by Vellu Halkosalmi (2014), live atthe Oosterpoort theatre in Groningen (NL) Soloist: Ruud Breuls-trp; composer: Bobby Timmons, arr. Quincy Jones (transc. Vellu Halkosalmi) The concert was a tribute to the jazz music of trumpeter, bandleader, composer, arranger and record, film and television producer Quincy Jones. The tunes selected for this tribute come primarily from his 1959 album “Birth of a Band“ cut for the Mercury label. Quincy came to prominence in the 1950s as a jazz arranger and conductor, before moving on to work in pop music and film and TV scores. His career spans over 60 years in the entertainment industry with a record 80 Grammy Award nominations, 28 Grammys, and a Grammy Legend Award.
