This nine-minute presentation explains how the brain functions, as well as how it functions differently in people with mental illnesses. Originally developed as part of a Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama patch program called Change of Mind coordinated by ADMH’s Office of Public Information & Community Relations, this presentation is relevant for people of all ages who want to learn more about mental illness. Understanding the Biology of Mental Illness seeks to educate, as well as heighten awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with mental illnesses. It also serves to provide clear, factual information about mental illness, its causes, ways to address it and recovery, in order to reduce stigma against people with mental illnesses.
