Heavy rain, flood brought by Typhoon Doksuri move into NE China as N China recovers from impact
North China’s Hebei Province had evacuated more than million people as of 08:00 Friday due to heavy rainfall over the previous few days, local authorities said Saturday.
In Zhuozhou, one of the worst-affected areas in Hebei, people’s lives have been gradually returning to normal since Friday, as water is receding in downtown areas and power supply has been restored in major parts of residential areas.
So far, more than 300 professional emergency rescue teams and 6,913 people have participated in the on-site rescue work in Zhuozhou.
And in Shulan City, northeast China’s Jilin Province, rescue operation has been carried out in full swing, as heavy downpours inundated swaths of farmland and destroyed infrastructures of some villages.
A total of 14,380 villagers in Shulan City were relocated to safer areas. As of 19:30 Friday, the heavy rainfall had claimed six lives, and caused four people to go missing, and all those missing are local officials taking part in rescue and relief efforts, including a deputy mayor of Shulan.
