Dimash and Li Yugang (李玉刚) sang a duet performing “贵妃醉酒 (Drunken Beauty) Diva Dance“ at the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala on January 25th, 2020. The subtitles were created from a combination of many online translation sources, lots of research and some poetic license. This song was HARD to translate. I can’t even. All of my research on key elements of the song and any deviations from a “direct“ translation are listed below. The song is based off of the “Ma Yipo“ incident in China, back in the Tang Dynasty. Ma Yipo (马嵬坡) is a poem (and location in China) which involves Emperor Xuanzong and his concubine, (Yang Yuhuan or Yang Guifei), all based on a true story.
