Violent Dances (Vladimir Varnava, Mikhail Petrenko, Zlata Yalinich, Vasily Tkachenko)

#Mariinsky #FromConceptToStage “Violent Dances“ — the program named so was presented in the end of the last year at the Mariinsky Concert Hall. Built around French music written about a century ago, it put together two ballets of the choreographer Vladimir Varnava to the music of Darius Milhaud and the vocal cycle “Four songs of Don Quixote“ by Jacques Ibert. The opening piece was the ballet “Clay“ (on a ballet score “La création du monde“ by Milhaud), staged for the first time at the “Creative Workshop of Young Choreographers“ in Mariinsky in 2015), whereas the culmination of the program was the premiere of a brand new ballet “Le bœuf sur le toit“. The documentary by conveys the atmosphere of the premiere and tells about the concept and the creative process in comments of the key participants.
