However, I have of using bananas as a means of propagation for bougainvillea. Propagation of bougainvillea through layering is a simple and effective method, especially if you want to propagate a mature plant without damaging the parent plant. Here are the general steps to propagate bougainvillea through layering: Choose a healthy, mature branch on the parent plant that is flexible and can be bent to the ground. Make a small cut or nick in the bark of the branch where you want to encourage roots to form. Dig a small trench in the Cocopeat next to the parent plant, and bend the branch down so that the wounded area is in contact with the cocopeat. Use a stake or wire to hold the branch in place, making sure that it is securely in contact with the Cocopeat. Cover the wounded area and the base of the branch with a layer of Cocopeat, and water thoroughly. Keep the Cocopeat moist, but not waterlogged, and watch for new growth to emerge from the wounded area. After several weeks or months, roots should begin to form, and you can carefully cut the new plant from the parent plant and transplant it into a new pot or into the ground. Propagation through layering is an excellent method for bougainvillea because it allows the new plant to develop its own root system while still attached to the parent plant, providing it with a reliable source of nutrients and moisture.
