Red Clay Casting: Pouring the Sterling Silver

When using a bronze pattern the weight difference to sterling silver is very similar so just weigh the pattern and add another 1/2 ounce to 3/4 ounce extra metal to create a large button to help push metal into the mold and give the item a good mass of metal to draw from when cooling. If using a wax pattern, simply multiply by 10.3 to get silver weight then add for the button. Based on the Red Clay Casting™ method by Craig Dabler. Clay brand is Red Clay. The Borax is added to help keep oxides from entering the metal and increasing the quality of the cast. All sand casting tools available from .
