Welcome to the Middle Earth Today The kingdom of Moria was the largest mine built by the dwarves, also known as Khazad-dûm, “the Dwarf’s Mine“. It was founded by Durin I the Immortal at the dawn of the First Age. Cut off from the other dwarven kingdoms during the First Age, many dwarves migrated to Moria, making it the largest dwarven city. For over a millennium it was a great center of trade, until the city’s inhabitants dug too deep for mithril. A balrog had been hiding in the depths for thousands of years. The balrog expelled the dwarves from the mine, since then, in Moria there was only darkness.
