Auschwitz- (With English Subtitles)

|||Historicly||| The Liberation of Auschwitz – one of the earliest documentaries on its subject, neither wastes little time. True to its title it focuses on the liberation of the Nazi deathcamp serving as its namesake, and serves as a time capsule of the earliest initial thoughts, reactions and analyses to these atrocities, before the true extent of them was fully known–the term “Holocaust” (ὅλος hólos, “whole“ καυστός kaustós, “burnt offering“) would not see widespread use for decades–it begins abruptly and drags you, eyes open through Hell as it was seen and known then by its victims and their liberators with appropriately little concern for you as the viewer. It mimics its subject and pushes you through the inner-workings and results of a factory built to process human beings as livestock. It does not learn your name, it merely inserts you into the carnage, acquaints you with the knowledge of the terrifying statistics created therein, and leaves you with those numbers, burnt and branded.
