Samsung’s 3nm Chip suffers Significant order cancellation To China’s Domestic Chip Makers

Samsung’s 3nm reportedly losing several significant orders to China’s domestic chip makers Samsung first used the 3nm technology as the process node for its first generation of gate-all-around (GAA) structure transistors. A GAA transistor’s gate encloses the channel’s four faces on which current flows, improving the functionality and energy efficiency of the chip. In contrast, the gate encloses the channel from three sides in the current Fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) architecture. Industry observers predicted that 3 nm chips will probably become the standard product in the foundry market for the next few years now that TSMC has adopted the 3 nm process node. Due to the difficulty in controlling electric current flows, a smaller process node, or reduced circuit linewidth, results in current leakage. By 2025, the market for 3 nm process nodes is expected to grow to $25.5 billion, exceeding the projected $19.3 billion for 5 nm process nodes. According to people with knowledge of the situation, Samsung has been producing semiconductors using 3-nanometer technology for customers like Nvidia, Qualcomm Technologies, Google, IBM, and China’s Baidu since November.
