Armed And Dangerous: Britain’s Racist Police

red. media’s first ever documentary delves into the experiences of Britain’s Black community, including insights from Kaba’s family and other families who have lost loved ones due to racist police violence. Last September, British police killed 24-year-old Chris Kaba with a single shot to the head through his car windscreen. This young Black man was a father to be with his whole life ahead of him. His killing sparked protests across England and protesters were further enraged as the details of his killing came out. First the police said there had been a car chase but later admitted Kaba wasn’t a suspect, they didn’t have their sirens on and he didn’t know he was being followed. British police are four times more likely to use force against Black individuals who are also seven times more likely to die after police restraint. Campaigners say this proves the UK police force is institutionally racist and a danger to civilians, getting away with acts of violence and murder with impunity. Kaba’s death is not an isolated incident. Since 1990, a staggering 1,833 individuals have lost their lives while in police custody or following police contact. This translates to more than one person losing their life at the hands of British police every single week for over three decades. Despite this, only one police officer has ever been prosecuted for causing a death and this was for manslaughter, not murder. We also hear from international athletes and young Black men residing in London’s council estates, providing a raw and intimate glimpse into their lived experiences of institutional racism in the UK.
