Chandra X-Ray Observatory astronomers have imaged a 300,000 light-year-long jet blasting forth from The Pictor A galaxy’s black hole, most likely comprised of “electrons spiraling around magnetic field lines.” The process, called synchrotron emission, requires the electrons to be continuously accelerated as they spew outward. But how this happens, astrophysicists don’t yet know.
