Live Cast Vulva Pottery- Janelle Kinsey

I include things in my work that would typically be otherwise hidden, stigmatized or hypersexualized. My latest work includes live cast vulva’s from women and nonbinary people of varying cultures, ages and backgrounds. By taking something so private and vulnerable, and translating it onto my functional ceramic designs, I call upon the user of my products to consider domestic issues, housework, and the implications of them, as they use these objects. Women’s voices have been and are being silenced, and so by placing the vulva on objects intended for daily use, I both de-stigmatize the vulva itself, while calling upon the user to meditate on the objectification of women, as they use a beautiful, literal object.
