Xi: China ready to work with Argentina to set example of cooperation among Global South countries

China is ready to work with Argentina to set an example of cooperation among Global South countries, said Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday when holding talks with Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, who is in Beijing to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF). Xi pointed out that since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago, the two countries have always respected each other, treated each other with equality and achieved win-win results. Under the joint guidance of the leaders of the two countries in recent years, China-Argentina relations have been brought to a new level, Xi said. “Both China and Argentina are important developing countries, shouldering the historic missions of promoting our respective development and rejuvenation, realizing the aspirations of the people of the two countries for a better life, and safeguarding international fairness and justice. China is willing to work with Argentina to push for steady and long-lasting development of China-Argentina relations, and set an example of cooperation among Global South countries,“ Xi said. Fernandez expressed his gratitude for China’s assistance in times of difficulty, lauding China a defender of multilateralism. “Mr. President, I am very pleased to see you again. Argentines often say, ’a friend in need is a friend indeed.’ In the most difficult times, China would always be with us, always. So first of all, I want to thank you.
