Echo sounders

This video shows the use of echo sounders and sonars in the ocean, from research vessels and other underwater platforms and vehicles. When a sound wave is sent into the water, echoes will come back if it hits an object or “target“ -- note how echoes are generated when the sound wave hits single fish, a school of fish and the seafloor. Characteristics of the echoes help us observe and measure marine organisms.
