Pipe Laying (1957)

Southampton, Hampshire. M/S from a low angle of tree tops, one of them begins to fall. M/S of the tree falling in a field. M/S of Ray Bryan backing a tractor across the field, two other men are stood by it. M/S of one of the men walking past the fallen tree to the roots, he signals to someone off screen. M/S of the ten ton trenching machine with a large wheel digging up the field. The operator, Matt O’Brien, is sat on the side manoeuvring it. C/U of Matt’s face as he steers it. C/U of the digging wheel as it goes round. M/S of the earth pouring out of the other side of the machine onto the field. C/U of the earth coming out of the machine. C/U from inside the trench of the machine going along. M/S as a section of pipe is lifted off the ground by a crane and manoeuvred into the trench. M/S of the site manager, John Webb, sat at a desk looking at plans. Stood next to him is the plant foreman Gordon Vickers. There is another man stood next to a sign saying ’Road Works Ahead’.
