What is the probability to have a curly hair?

This video is over simplification and serves only to purpose to demonstrate a simple Mendelian trates segregation and recombination. The reason why Cc and cC results in curly hair is because the curly allele is dominant while the straight allele is recessive. One good analogy that I like is this: Imagine the dominant allele to be a sheet of black paper, and the recessive allele to be a sheet of transparent material. When any two sheets are placed together, we realise that the two sheets put together appear black when we have a black-black, black-transparent, and transparent-black combination. The only time that the two sheets appear clear is when we have a transparent-transparent combination. Different possibilities: 1. “cc“ gene combination is the strait hair (because the only combination for straight hair is the “cc“ one). 2. “Dad“ has either a “CC“ or “Cc“ combination (i’ll leave “cC“ out to make it less confusing). Seems like such a simple question. In fact, in the old days it was. Back then there was a gene that came in two versions, straight and curly. People with straight hair had two copies of the straight version, people with curly hair had two curly versions and people with wavy hair had one of each. Since then things have become a bit more complicated. It turns out that curly and straight hair are not so easy. First off, it looks like lots of genes may be involved in making someone’s hair straight or curly. Scientists have only found a few so far and none of them has a really big effect. This suggests there are lots more out there waiting to be found. Second, not everyone has straight or curly hair because of the same genes. People whose ancestors came from Africa have very different curly hair than people whose ancestors came from Europe. And people from Asia have different straight hair than people from Europe. Different genes (and gene versions) are responsible for these different kinds of hair. So the answer to set of questions depends on where female and her husband’s ancestors came from. And why the two of them have the hair they do. But still, we should be able to figure something out.
