Drop in Ultrasonic Levitation

Video of a drop (propylene glycol) being placed into an acoustic field from the end of a syringe needle. The diameter is approximately 3mm, and the drop is suspended in the acoustic field that is generated between an ultrasonic transducer and a reflector surface. A PZT disc within the apparatus is vibrating at approximately 30kHz (NOTE: you will not be able to see the bottom surface vibrating because the amplitude is very small, and 30kHz is very fast!). Video was acquired in the fluids laboratory of Dr. J
