I had just left Immokalee, a farming community that’s the poorest place in the state, and was on my way to Miami. But before I got there, I needed to see what’s been called the most dangerous place in the state. So in early May, I spent the afternoon in Florida City. A lot of people in Florida don’t even know where Florida City even is. You can understand why. It’s not very big. It’s way out at the entrance to the Everglades, in the far reaches of Miami-Dade County. If you know the area, it’s where the famous tourist stop Robert Is Here is located. You know the place - where you buy odd canned goods, weird-looking produce, and feed all the farm animals.
