The Tempest

The Tempest is a traditional American Country Dance; it dates to at least 1882. The dance has a formation that is practically unique (a few other dances use it, and name it “Tempest Formation“). It is a variant of the four face four format except the couples moving up start on the sides. The animation plays at 1 second per bar normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
