The first extravehicular activity on the China Space Station completed successfully

On 4 July 2021, at 00:11 UTC (08:11 China Standard Time), astronaut Liu Boming successfully opened the hatch of the Tianhe core module, starting the first extravehicular activity (EVA) on the China Space Station (CSS). During the spacewalk, astronauts Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo tested the new EVA spacesuit, installed various hardware items, including panoramic cameras. The robotic arm attached to the Tianhe core module, the first and main component of the CSS, was used to facilitate the astronaut’s movement during the EVA. The operations were declared completed on 4 July 2021, at 06:57 UTC (14:57 China Standard Time). The Shenzhou-12 crew is scheduled to perform one more EVA during the three-month mission.
