Novel Launchings (1942)

Titles read: “NOVEL LAUNCHINGS“. Various locations of events. At Norfolk in Virginia, United States of America, we see various shots of a steel oil tanker ship being launched and sliding sideways down a slipway. It nearly capsizes when toppling over the 6 foot drop at the end, but just manages to bounce right way up. In Durban, South Africa’s first warship, a 45 ton anti-submarine vessel (motor torpedo boat) is christened, then lifted onto the water by an enormous crane. At a New Jersey shipyard in America, commentator says two ships are being launched at the same time, but we only see one. General MacArthur’s sister-in-law (unnamed) smashes a champagne bottle against the hull of a destroyer several times and the vessel moves down the slipway. Natural sound of people cheering and a man saying “Don’t push!“. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLORE OUR ONLINE CHANNEL, BRITISH PATHÉ TV.
