Lady Franklin’s Lament

166 years ago this May, Lord John Franklin left Greenhithe, England with a crew of 24 officers and 110 men to seek that era’s most illustrious goal, a passage around the north pole that remained ice-free for ship-born commerce to travel thru. He and his men never returned. Lady Franklin’s Lament tells of his widow’s dedication that led her, long after the British Empire gave up, to find and finance souls willing and able to search for her lost husband and bring back news of his fate.
