The Unforgiven: Wagner, Jews, and Antisemitism

On April 28, 2021, the Yale Program for the Study of Antisemitism hosted a webinar with Alex Ross, the music critic of The New Yorker magazine entitled “Unforgiven:  Wagner, Jews, and Antisemitism.”  In a 30-minute presentation, Ross discussed the debate over Wagner’s hatred of Jews, from the mid-nineteenth century to the present, as well as how Jews, blacks, and members of other minority groups have related to Wagner’s music.  The talk was followed by a question and answer period, moderated by Maurice Samuels.
