Koalas Removed From Quail Island (1940-1949)

At Quail Island Sanctuary we see several shots of men, including Mr Frederick Lewis - Chief Inspector of Game and Fisheries, removing Koala bears from bare trees using a long pole with a noose on the end. The bears are hooked with the noose, then dropped onto a blanket below. One proves to be a little difficult to catch, making his own way down the tree trunk with the noose around him. A bear in a bag is emptied into a wooden crate. The bears are taken by rowing boat back to the road, where a small van drives them to Trentham - 100 miles away. A crowd of children wait by a forest with an abundance of eucalyptus trees. The children watch while the bears are let out of the crates and climb quickly up the trees.
