Kool & The Gang ~ Too Hot 1979 Soul Purrfection Version

You know right from the first note that this was going to be a sad song. The subdued jazz funk orchestration was perfect for the disco crowd, it has this groove thing going on and with a snappy drum arrangement that made it accessible to just about everyone. I was working on Dionne Warwick’s “Deja Vu“ and this Kool & The Gang downtempo tune came back to me. I remember hearing those two tunes one after the other and then followed by Machine’s “Mister Destiny“ an obscure but searchworthy song perfect for a rainy summer night. This one just reached out to me this week with a timely message and I wanted to share it with you in these times. There is a sense of regret throughout this one, but the smokin’ hot rhythm section knew just how to play it so that the vocals really made you listen to the lyrics.
