Like most mining boom towns, Garnet, (named after the semi-precious stones found in the area), saw its fair share of comings and goings. With the post office closing in 1942, and nearly all of the residents leaving, Garnet was added to the list of ghost towns in Montana. Fortunately the Bureau of Land Management stepped in, preserving the last remains structures ensuring that Garnet remained Montana’s best preserved ghost town.
