Singer Anita O’Day titled her autobiography High Times Hard Times for good reason—she lived through both. She was a unique singer who sounds like no other (although Veronica Swift is channeling her these days). Starting her career in the swing era, and despite addiction that claimed the lives of many jazz musicians, she performed up to the age of 87.
