A 3-D Flyby of Karl Sees Heavy Rain

This flyby animation from NASA/JAXA’s GPM satellite on Sept. 24 at 1156 UTC (7:56 a.m. EDT) GPM found heavy rainfall at 299 mm (11.8 inches) per hour north of Karl’s center where storm tops reached heights above 16 km (9.9 mph), GPM showed that there was very little precipitation in Karl’s nearly dry center of circulation.
