Businesses hope to profit off Californias lithium reserves environmentalists protest

The U.S. government says Southern California’s Salton Sea region has significant potential as a domestic source of lithium. The valuable element is used in manufacturing batteries for all kinds of electronic devices, most notably for electric vehicles. But, environmentalists are worried about its impact locally.
