White Ape Tong Bei Applications Intermediate

This is a TWO PERSON FORM. Now here’s the problem. The form is actually pretty sophisticated with many hand exchanges, angular changes and soft parries. Teacher Zhang, getting up there in years, demonstrates with a much younger student and can only show the most cursory movement. The breakdown is better as the form is quite an involved partner set. But the demonstration leaves us wondering if slight bends were ducking actions and knee twitches were meant to be kicks. About Performer: Master Guizeng Zhang, born in 1909, is 4th generation successor of White Ape Fist. He was a national wushu umpire. One of the numerous styles in the TongBei or Through-the-Back family of Kung Fu. This branch is known as White Ape, one of Tong Bei’s earliest aliases. Though the demonstrator is old, many of these traditional movements are examples of TongBei, a famous fist. When he was small Zhang Gui Zeng studied from Tong Bei master, Wang Yu Kun, 王玉昆. Later he studied under Wang Yong Feng,
