MOST SPECTACULAR GANGBAL LAKE TREK - CONNECTING WITH SACRED EARTH / SWIMMING IN HOLY WATER - Day 1

Gangabal Lake trek is the most beautiful and popular trek in Kashmir. This scenic journey is about two sacred alpine lakes - Nundkhol and Gangbal - which are located in the lap of Mt. Harmukh 5146 m above sea level. Gangabal lake is considered sacred in Hinduism as one of the abodes of Shiva, and Kashmiri Hindus perform an annual pilgrimage to the lake called Harmukh-Gangabal Yatra. Many faiths and traditions share a deep sense that the ground is holy. In India and the Middle East, worshippers in mosques, churches and synagogues remove their shoes before entering a sacred space to pray.  This is connected with ideas of cleanliness and purity.  In some traditions, pilgrims walk holy paths barefoot as a sign of their dedication and love.  I personally believe and feel deeply within me that the whole Mother Earth is a sacred, living being.
