Vasily Petrenko conducts Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements

In the final of three performances of works by Stravinsky, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s new Music Director Vasily Petrenko conducts the Symphony in Three Movements in the Royal Albert Hall. A piece of music Stravinsky referred to as his ’war symphony’, the Symphony in Three Movements was influenced by footage of the Second World War in its composition between 1942 and 1945. Despite the dark inspirations, Stravinsky crafted a series of three dynamic movements with their own inventive uses of rhythm and colourful tonalities to produce one of his great achievements of neoclassical writing.
