Beethoven: Symphony No 7 (1951) Karajan/Philharmonia

Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World“ 1. Poco sostenuto - Vivace (0:07) 2. Allegretto (12:50) 3. Presto (21:59) 4. Allegro con brio (30:43) In the years after WWII Herbert von Karajan was unable to perform in public concerts because of his relationship to the German government in prior years. He turned, instead, to the recording studio. Walter Legge had formed a new orchestra: The Philharmonia, and the opportunity presented itself for conductors such as Karajan to make a statement in vinyl. HVK was one of the most successful, and recorded a large repertoire with the ensemble, including his first cycle of Beethoven’s major orchestral works. Expect to hear more of them here soon.
