One of a series of short films produced in 1969 by Charles Grinker and Mert Koplin, “Which Way USA -- Black Views on Race“ provided brief portraits of many African American leaders including Martin Luther King, Cassius Clay, Malcolm X, Bobby Seale, and others. This episode features Carl Burton Stokes (1927 – 1996), who became one of the first black mayors when he became mayor of Cleveland, Ohio in 1967. He also served three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. In 1972, he became the first black anchorman in New York City on WNBC-TV.
