Cooler Master MWE 650 Bronze V2 PSU Review - Too Much Effort For Bronze?

⭐️ Model number: Cooler Master MWE Bronze 650 V2, MPE-6501-ACAAB ⭐️ Differences with V2 – Full Range: MPE-6501-ACAAW. This seems to be the version sold outside of Europe. The main difference I could spot was the different fan speed profiles. The non-EU version also has a different cable configuration with short ATX and EPS and only a single EPS, while the EU version has two EPS connectors. ⭐️ OEM: Gospower ⭐️ Efficiency: ETA-A- ( %) 80 PLUS Bronze ⭐️ Noise: LAMBDA-Standard ( [A]) ⭐️ Modular Cables: No ⭐️ Dimensions: Compact ⭐️ Price: $85 ⭐️ Warranty: 5-years ⭐️ Power Specifications: Single 12V rail ⭐️ Power Distribution: 648W & 12V, 120W & Minor rails ⭐️ Cables: 2x EPS (on the same cable though with 18AWG), 4x PCIe, 8x SATA, 4x 4-pin Molex ⭐️ Cable Length and distance between them: Long. 120mm distance between all peripheral connectors ⭐️ In Cable caps: No ⭐️ Internal Design / Build Quality: High-end platform with mainstream FETs, Chinese caps, and decent soldering quality. Half-Bridge and LLC resonant converter on the primary side. Synchronous rectification and DC-DC converters on the secondary side. Caps and Fan manufacturers: bulk cap: Elite GM at 85C. Hong Hua Fan (FDB) 120mm. ⭐️ Secondary side: Elite 105C caps and CapXon Polymers. ⭐️ Relative Performance: Quite high for the standards of this category. ⭐️ Average Efficiency: % with 115V & % with 230V ⭐️ Efficiency with 2% load: % ⭐️ AVG Efficiency 5VSB: High enough ⭐️ Average Noise: High, aggressive fan speed profile ⭐️ Average Power Factor: Bottom low with both 115V and 230V input ⭐️ Hold Up time: 22.4 ms. Accurate Power Ok Signal ⭐️ Inrush current: 230V: 129A. 115V: 86A. NTC thermistor: 7.8 Ohm. ⭐️ Load Regulation: Loose on all rails, especially at 12V. ⭐️ Ripple suppression: Good on all rails ⭐️ Transient response: Mediocre on all major rails. ⭐️ Protection Features: All basic protection features are present, including OTP. No MOV. It has an NTC thermistor and a bypass relay. OCP needs tuning. Bottom Line: It is nice to see a high-end platform in a mere Bronze PSU. The price is good also, at 85 bucks. Overall performance is high, going head-to-head with the Corsair CX650 by Great Wall. Efficient platform but noisy. The fan speed profile should be much more relaxed. It needs several improvements to deliver its full potential: Correctly tuned protection OCP and OPP, an MOV in the transient filter, dedicated EPS cables for the pair of corresponding connectors, increased PF, and better transient response. A better bulk cap would be nice, too. Alternative options besides the Corsair CX650. The new Asus TUF PSUs and XPG Pylon models. All use modern platforms featuring half-bridge topologies, LLC resonant controllers, and DC-DC converters on the secondary side.
