TikTok but it’s in 2006

I am pleased to present my latest conceptual video, envisioning what TikTok might have looked like had it been launched in 2006. This project required significantly more time than anticipated. I trust you will appreciate the dedication and effort that went into bringing this idea to life. The extended timeline was due to the complexity of recreating a video website from the ground up. Unlike my previous projects, this task involved extensive technical work, including researching and designing the interface, troubleshooting bugs, and filming with vintage equipments. Additionally, the capacitor on my CRT monitor began to fail, causing intermittent flickering and necessitating multiple retakes. Despite these challenges, I am pleased with the outcome and enjoyed the process of emulating the 2000s aesthetic. The choice to make TikTok a five-second video platform was a playful exaggeration of the “short video“ concept. My aim was to create a website that was intentionally simple and somewhat pointless, humorously poking fun at TikTok. You may be curious as to why I chose 2006 as the focus once more. After working on various concept videos, I realized that 2006 was a pivotal year for emerging websites and technologies, including YouTube, MySpace, and various games and software. During this time, CRT monitors were still common, and Windows XP was a dominant operating system, adding a layer of nostalgia to my concept video. By drawing comparisons between these early features and those of YouTube, which was gaining traction back then, I aimed to highlight the relevance of this particular year.
