Visit Visit our website Shot by an unknown American who was either visiting or stationed in Europe, this color home movie shows some of the events of August 08, 1959, as President Dwight Eisenhower visited Bonn, West Germany. The President is visible twice (1:35 and 1:56), waving to crowds that lined the streets. The President stands in a Mercedes convertible, with a team of Secret Service agents visible in another car directly behind him. He was on his way to a meeting with President Heuss. At (2:53) an Army helicopter takes off with the President and the crowd disperses. At (3:57), the Soviet War Memorial at Berlin’s Treptower Park is shown. At (6:03) the Brandenburg Gate, dividing line between East and West Germany is shown. At (6:39) one of two T-38 tanks, which stand on pedestals in front of Berlin’s Soviet war memorial, is shown. At (7:29) a woman stands in front of a U.S. Army Berlin Command building with the sign “Dahlem Guest House“ visible behind her. At (7:40) is footage of a little league baseball team and at (8:03) flag raising of the West German and United States flags at the baseball stadium. It’s not clear if the man visible at 8:54 in the footage is President Eisenhower (probably not!). At 9:37 is footage of a playground with a merry-go-round and a see-saw.
