He led cavalry raids deep into the Fascist rear areas on the opening stages of the war. He led from the front, and his men loved and respected him. General Dovator ws killed in action in December 1941 whilst conducting a reconnaissance at the front. He never asked his men to do what he would not. His title of “Hero of the Soviet Union“ was well-earned, indeed. Glory to his memory!
