What is Friction? | Class 8th Physics |

Have you seen a ball halting on its own after rolling for a while? Or do you know why do we rub our palms during winter? This is because of Friction. Friction is a force that acts between any two surfaces in contact with a tendency to move. Friction works in opposite direction. When one object is sliding, rolling, or slipping on another object it starts to slow down due to friction. Hence the object loses its energy. But this energy doesn’t disappear. It changes into heat energy. Because friction is generated, the moving ball halts and rubbing our palms gives us warmth.
