Bach at Work : Real Time Calligraphy

The opening Adagio of Bach’s solo violin music is complex to play and notate. This is a real speed recording, Bach may have done it twice as fast. The tip of the quill traces a collection of his gestures and recovers a library of movements, a physical and tactile experience that somehow opens doors to more metaphysical concepts. Seeing how it is done could also bring him closer in a human sense: handling his ink and feather with precision and elegance. BWV 1001 D-B .
