Robb Wilton (1932)

Robb Wilton entertains with a monologue as a First World War soldier who has just found out the war is over. Titles read: “Pathetone again presents Robb Wilton - the famous Variety and . Comedian.“ London (probably Pathe Studio). Robb Wilton enters the set of a domestic kitchen; he is wearing a battered World War I uniform. He says “No one told me a blinking word about the war being over“, and says he’s been sitting out in a dugout all on his own since 1918! He goes into a funny monologue about how he found out the war was over (he found a man planting cabbages over the top of the trench) and got the ferry from Calais to Dover. Arriving at a London railway station, he asked a railway porter “Who’s won?“ and the man answered “The Arsenal, 2-1“. He takes off his ragged Army overcoat and looks in his kit bag for his souvenirs.
